Hanjo Boekhout MSc started as a PhD candidate in the Computational Network Science group in August of 2020. Both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Computer Science, with a specialization in “Computer Science and Advanced Data Analytics”, were obtained with honor (cum laude) at Leiden University. During his Master’s studies, Hanjo focused on extending and applying algorithms for counting motifs, small subgraphs of a few nodes and edges, in multilayer temporal networks. For his Master thesis, he applied these algorithms to scientific collaboration, i.e., co-authorship, networks in order to identify typical (international) collaboration and mobility behaviours in the various scientific fields and countries. Hanjo has also worked at the Centre for Science and Technology studies (CWTS) at Leiden University, researching gender differences in scientific careers from a global, national and field-specific perspective.

As a PhD candidate in the CNS group, Hanjo will study temporal networks, looking, for example, at node and edge centrality. Furthermore, he will contribute to various applied network science projects related to online crime patterns on the dark web, scientific collaboration and citation networks.
